Parent Advocacy

Our Parent Advocacy services can support you if you and your family are involved with children’s social care processes, child protection plans and legal proceedings.

Our services are free, independent, and confidential. We are not part of social services, and our role is to support you and be instructed by you.

How can a Parent Advocate help?

Our Parent Advocates will stand alongside you and help you to be fully involved in social care processes, understand your rights as parents, and build your confidence.

We will support you to speak up and share your views in meetings, or do this on your behalf if you would prefer.

We will also make sure information is written in a way you understand and ask professionals to use straightforward words.

You can have an advocate if:

  • You have a social worker
  • You struggle to understand or remember information to make decisions
  • You need support to communicate your views
  • There’s no-one else that can support you

A Parent Advocate can support you to attend:

  • Pre-birth conferences
  • Parent assessments
  • Child protection conferences
  • Core groups
  • Statutory reviews
  • PLO meetings
  • Legal meetings
  • Court attendance (subject to area)

Parent Advocacy availability is subject to what is commissioned in the area you live.
