KIN

Our Kirklees Involvement Network (KIN) is a friendly self-advocacy group for adults in Kirklees with a learning disability.

KIN is here to help you understand your rights and have your voice heard on the issues that matter most to you. We share updates about what’s happening in the Learning Disability community, both locally and across the UK, and provide helpful information to support you in making your own choices.

About

We hold self-advocacy group meetings every six weeks and organise regular events and workshops based on what our members tell us is important. We also work closely with organisations like the West Yorkshire Police, hospitals, and Kirklees Council to campaign for positive changes that benefit people with a learning disability.

As well as this, we deliver training presented by local people with a learning disability. We have trained thousands of people in our district. For example, we have recently run training for professionals and people with a learning disability on:

  • Hate and mate crime
  • Mental health
  • Happy, healthy relationships
  • Disability awareness
  • Health inequalities

Picnic in the Park

Every year, Kirklees Involvement Network hosts a Picnic in the Park as part of Learning Disabilities Week. It’s a time for people with learning disabilities to come together, meet – and make – friends, and have fun being themselves. The day includes activities and events, including shows by the Dark Horse Theatre Company, live music, and drumming workshops.

Support our future Picnic in the Park events by donating here: Cloverleaf Advocacy: Picnic in the Park (Learning Disabilities).
