Kirklees Involvement Network

What we do

Kirklees Involvement Network is a self-advocacy group for adults with a learning disability. We help you understand your rights and to have your say about things that affect you. We keep you updated on what is going on in the Learning Disability community locally and across the UK. We give you the right information to make your own choices.

We have 6 weekly self-advocacy group meetings, regular events and workshops on things our members say are important.

We work with other organisations like The Police, hospitals, Kirklees Council and we campaign to make things better for people with a learning disability.

We arrange lots of local events and we manage Kirklees Learning Disability week events which include an annual Picnic In the Park.

We find out what the big issues are for local people and then apply for funding for projects to work on these issues. For example our Happy Healthy Relationships Project.

We also deliver training presented by local people with a learning disability. We have trained thousands of people in our district.  We have recently run training for professionals and people with a learning disability on Hate & Mate Crime, Mental Health, Happy Healthy Relationships as well as Disability Awareness, and Health inequalities.

We have 98% positive feedback on our training and people say our training is “Powerful, fun, easy to understand, and brilliantly delivered by people who have real experience of the issues.“

KIN also runs an Easy Read Writing and Checking Service. We work alongside Easy Read UK, and we have checked documents for people like The Government and the British Institute of Human Rights.
