Barnsley Carers Service
Cloverleaf Advocacy adds Barnsley Carers Service to its portfolio of free-to-access carer support services
Cloverleaf is proud to announce that following a tender process, we have successfully been awarded a two-year contract to manage and deliver Barnsley’s free-to-access carer support service.
It’s estimated that 27,167 people currently give their time and energy to caring for a loved one, family member, or friend in Barnsley. The number of unpaid carers in the borough equates to approximately 12% of the population.
Barnsley Council has invested significant funds into providing the service since its launch in 2018. In line with their Carers' Strategy, Barnsley Carers Service delivers vital support to unpaid carers in the borough, ensuring they have access to information, advice, practical and emotional support to enable them to lead fulfilling lives alongside their caring duties.
Cloverleaf already supports carers in Kirklees through our Carers Count service. The Barnsley Carers Service will add to our growing network of support services, allowing us to reach and support more carers when they need us.
Cloverleaf officially started its management of Barnsley Carers Service on the 1st of April. We are committed to growing and developing the current resources to improve local unpaid carers’ quality of life.
We will continue to provide a wide range of services, such as information and advice, carer training, benefits advice, and a full range of wellbeing events and initiatives.
Joanne Green, Operations Director - Carers, self-advocacy and inclusion services at Cloverleaf, said: “Barnsley Carers Service is a well-regarded and respected service, and we are looking forward to working with such a dedicated and enthusiastic team.
“Over the coming weeks and months, we will continue to talk to local carers. We will also engage with the great work that the Barnsley Carers Forum is doing to find out their thoughts on the support and groups we provide, and the services people need moving forward. We welcome any comments and suggestions, with the aim of Barnsley Carers Service being the service that carers are involved with and truly value.”
Wendy Lowder, Barnsley Council’s Executive Director for Place Health and Adult Social Care, said: “In Barnsley, we’re passionate about supporting unpaid carers, who play such an important role in families and across our communities. I’m therefore delighted to see our popular Barnsley Carers Service continuing with the dedicated team at Cloverleaf Advocacy.
“Their passion for working with carers shines through and they will be key partners in supporting us to deliver the ambitions within our Carers Strategy. Whether you look after a loved one, friend or family member, get in touch with the team today and find out how they can help you.”
Cloverleaf Advocacy CEO - Suzi Henderson added: "At Cloverleaf Advocacy, we are excited to have been awarded the contract to deliver Barnsley Carers Service. Carers play an incredibly important role in our society. They provide invaluable support to their loved ones, which often impacts their wellbeing. We know that being a carer can be both rewarding and frustrating. It’s vital that they get the support they need to help manage the life changes, financial burdens, and health and wellbeing challenges they face.
“We are proud to be able to support carers to be and feel valued, provide a listening ear, and to access help when they need it."
