Learning Disability Week 2022
15/06/2022
Living Life with a Learning Disability
We're counting down to Learning Disability Week. This year, Mencap is aiming to show how people with a learning disability are reconnecting with friends and their communities.
Recent research by the charity found that a staggering 1 in 10 people with a learning disability leaves the house just once a week or less. The pandemic had a monumental impact on those families as many vital day services that offer support and an escape from loneliness closed or shut down altogether.
Although things have returned to 'normal' for many, we need to talk about the issues many people still face after the end of COVID restrictions, like still having to isolate or dealing with poor mental health and anxiety.
Every year Mencap coordinates Learning Disability Week - the campaign runs from 20th-26th June this year. We are supporting #LDWeek to ensure the world hears what life is like if you have a learning disability and to help:
- Smash stigmas and end discrimination
- Educate and raise awareness about learning disabilities
- Fight and campaign for a fair society
