What I'm reading and listening to this month - August

24/08/2023

We all know that reading and listening to music is good for the soul!

We’re big lovers of the written word and a good old hum-a-long here at Cloverleaf, so we’ve asked our colleagues to share what’s getting their earbuds buzzing and sparking their word-nerdiness at the minute...

This is what Dan has to say…

I love books and read every day; my favourite genres are historical fiction, fantasy and sci-fi.

I have just started reading a sci-fi novel called Red Rising by Pierce Brown, set in a dystopian future where humanity has started colonising other planets in the solar system.  People are now categorised into a colour-based class system - people born as golds are rulers and are at the top, people born as reds are the lowest and do the hard dangerous jobs such as mining. People are unable to move outside the 'colour class' they are born into. I have only just started reading it, but it's really grabbed me already.

I enjoy listening to podcasts - a favourite one is Casefile, an Australian true crime podcast which has been running since January 2016, so lots of episodes to catch up on!  The series looks at both solved and cold cases, often well-known murders or crimes.

As a complete change, I also listen to Help I Sexted My Boss - a comedy podcast where two men offer solutions to people's dilemmas, ranging from which biscuit to have with your tea to how to order water in posh restaurants (though some of the content is a little more fruity...!).

Music-wise, I range from pop to classical, and tend to listen when I'm relaxing or cleaning the house!
